[NEWS] CEO Yang Hyun Suk compares G-Dragon's music to Chinese food! (120917)

Having made his first solo album comeback in three years with the release of ‘One of a Kind‘, G-Dragon is currently making an all-kill on the digital charts with his title track, "Crayon" , as of September 16th.

When asked by reporters to compare G-Dragon’s music to a dish, CEO Yang Hyun Suk in an interview with OSEN replied, “G-Dragon’s music, put simply, is like jjam-jja-myun (combination of black noodles and jjamppong, a Chinese-style noodle dish with vegetables and seafood).” [The two dishes are some of the most popular take-out Chinese food in South Korea. The word 'jjamjjamyun' is a portmanteau of'jjajangmyun' and 'jjamppong'.]

He stated, “For the past 15 years, I’ve been a DJ at a club. Even now, at least once or twice a month, I always turn music on so I know about the pop music trends of the world. G-Dragon’s music is music that you can’t find anywhere in the world. ‘Crayon’ is very provocative and experimental. Because electronica is becoming a global trend, hip hop is also following in the mix. Normally, artists will use electronic beats and rap on top of that. G-Dragon, however, didn’t mix it as a crossover, but rather used electronica as the base one of one verse and hip hop as the base of the second.”

Then what is the difference between mixing hip hop and electronica and separating hip hop and electronica in the same song?

He replied, “Because of the speed of the song, it’s really difficult to differentiate the two in one song together. I believe that I’ve never seen this done before in the international market.”

Thus is the reason why he chose the ‘jjam-jja-myun’ dish as a comparison to G-Dragon’s music. The dish takes one bowl and splits it in half so one can eat both the ‘jjajangmyun (black noodles)’ and ‘jjamppong (Chinese-style noodles)’ in the same dish – getting the best of both worlds.

Big Bang G-Dragon’s One of a Kind release on September 15 caused many celebrities to send their congratulations towards the younger singer, and among that group was 2AM’s Jo Kwon. 

On September 15, Jo Kwon tweeted to G-Dragon, praising the new release album and giving his support to G-Dragon. The conversation between the two group leaders, who each had their solo careers this year, are as followed.

@2AMkwon: Hello :-) Your music and style in this album is very great ^^ Fighting on your promotions

@IBGDRGN: Thank you, Mr. Kwon! This is a bit awkward…Fighting. lol.

@2AMkwon: Yes!! This is a bit…awkward…haha. I listened to your album before going to sleep. It’s seriously the best, hyung! Let’s get closer~ :-) lol.

Throughout the entire conversation, the two singers spoke formal Korean to each other. Meanwhile, all six tracks in G-Dragon’s new album One of a Kind entered the top 10 charts of several music sites.

It's nice to see that the two leaders are so supportive of one another! Hope that the two would be able to get closer to one another soon :D

With the release of his new album just around the corner, G-Dragon has released a video introducing his upcoming song “Missing You” featuring Jaurim‘s Kim Yun Ah.

According to information released to us by YG Entertainment, G-Dragon will be releasing a video every day giving us some insight on a new song from his ‘One of a Kind’ mini album.

“Missing You”, the first track introduced to us is a song with an easy melody that sings of longing for a past lover.

Big Bang’s G-Dragon′s One of a Kind may be following the footsteps of Psy’s Gangnam Style, having gained more than 5 million views since its release.

The music video for G-Dragon’s newest single One of a Kind gained 5 million views as of August 27, only two days after its release on August 25.
One of a Kind, a trendy hip-hop single that stands out with unique sounds, serves as an intro to G-Dragon’s upcoming solo album, and was composed by G-Dragon and Choice37, the YG producer who composed G-Dragon’s A Boy and Big Bang’s Bad Boy. The song will not be released officially as a separate single; it was only meant to be released in music video form.

Through lyrics such as ‘A talented bear, more a fox than a bear / A stuck up guy, so expensive’, ‘Young & rich / That’s me’, ‘I’m sorry I’m so popular’ and ‘Please look on kindly, don’t curse / Please look on cutely / Love me’, he tells those who still hold prejudices against him to loosen up and be a bit more generous.

The music video is glittered with designer items, living up to G-Dragon’s name in fashion. Luxury accessories and clothing from such brands as Chrome Hearts and Chanel dress G-Dragon up in a lavish and attractive style.

Taeyang makes a special cameo appearance near the end, showing the friendship the two Big Bang members boast. Taeyang is also flanked by Choice37, YG’s trainer Hwang Ssa Bu and other crew members that helped G-Dragon be the man he is now to show their support for the singer’s comeback.

The music video was directed by Seo Hyun Seung, who directed Big Bang’s Fantastic Baby, G-Dragon’s Heartbreakerand other YG music videos.

Could Big Bang release a new English language album? According to the group’s maknae Seungri there definitely is a possibility it is in the cards.



On July 6, during the “North Face: Never Stop Dreaming  Talk Concert with Big Bang” in Korea the group met with fans and performed some of their latest hits. Even though T.O.P was noticeably absent, due to his filming schedule for the motion picture “Alumni,” fans need not worry as G-Dragon filled in for the husky, voiced rapper. Though he was still greatly missed.



While the group was speaking frankly to the crowd Seungri let slip that there might be an English language album in the works. According to various fan accounts Seungri was quoted as saying, “There is a possibility that Big Bang will release an album in English.”



Though this is not the first time the young vocalist has teased fans. His track record shows that he has often revealed secret information regarding his fellow members. Recently at a fan meet in Japan, he had even joked with group-mate G-Dragon and fans about the leader’s upcoming solo album.



On another note, a lucky Canadian fans were invited to the showcase as they were the winners of Big Bang’s cover contest. There they met the group and hung out with them backstage prior to the show. While there they tested the members English language skills. When asked about their “Alive” world tour visiting Canada, Taeyang confirmed and apologized to the fans that there will not be a Canadian leg of the tour.

Big Bang, "Monster" Seungri Version Teaser (120531)[NEWS]

The release of the Seungri version teaser of Big Bang’s “Monster” has been gathering attention.




At 12:00 on the 31st, the video was posted on the YG LIFE blog. In the video, it seems as though Seungri was having a hard time looking for something. A new part of the song “Monster” was revealed with the video.

Seungri’s lyrics “don’t go don’t go don’t go don’t leave stop stop stop this is unlike you” had a unique feel to it and added the emotion of sadness.

The excitement for “Monster” grows, as G-Dragon and TOPs versions have revealed narrations. With the new part that was shown today, people wonder how “Monster” will come out.

Seungri’s black and white long coat and TOP’s blue eyes also showed overflowing charisma.

The music video for “Monster” is said to have brought each member’s personalities to life in an extravagant video with a blockbuster scale.

Big Bang’s special edition “Still Alive” has not only the title song “Monster,” but also “Still Alive,” “Feeling,” “Bingle Bingle,” and “Ego,” along with the original songs from the 5th mini album “Alive.”

“Still Alive” will be revealed on the 3rd, and on the 6th, the hard copy album will be released, as a response to the fans’ love for Big Bang as they head for 16 countries and 25 cities as part of their world tour.

[NEWS] Big Bang to focus on world tour, no promotional activities for ‘Still Alive’! (120529)

YG Entertainment has revealed it will not hold promotional activities for Big Bang’s much-anticipated special re-release album Still Alive.





The special edition album is scheduled to drop on June 3 with five additional songs in addition to the songs from the mini album Alive.



However, a source close to YG Entertainment revealed the group has decided to not hold any performances for the new album, including music shows, and focus on its ongoing world tour 2012 Big Bang Alive Tour instead.

Big Bang is in the midst of a series of concerts lined up in Japan, with concerts in Osaka from May 31 through June 3, Saitama from June 17 through 17 and Fukuoka from June 23 through June 24.

In the midst of the packed concert schedule, YG Entertainment and Big Bang decided that planning, rehearsing and performing stages for the album in-between would prove too much. Big Bang’s world tour will also take them to Asia, North and South America and Europe to wind them through 16 countries and 25 cities.

Still Alive, its title song Monster and music video will all be unveiled on June 3, while the hard copy will be available on June 6.
