[NEWS] G-Dragon unable to perform “That XX” on YHY’s Sketchbook! (121010)
Big Bang’s G-Dragon tried hard to perform “That XX,” which was R-rated, on KBS’s music program Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook.
G-Dragon recorded the program on October 9 and passionately performed “Crayon,” “One of a Kind,” “Missing You,” and “This Love.”
It has been almost three years since singers from YG Entertainment appeared on KBS. The conflict between the broadcasting station and the agency started when singers from the agency didn’t attend the ‘KBS Song Festival’ in 2010.
On October 10, a senior official for the agency said, “We replaced some of the lyrics for the song “That XX” so that we could perform the song on the show, but the public broadcaster has a very strict and difficult standard. As a result, the song was unable to pass the deliberation.”
“G-Dragon, who tried hard and practiced hard for the new performance, felt very sorry about it.”
G-Dragon, however, performed “Missing You,” in which Kim Yoon Ah is featured, with 2NE1′s Gong Min Ji. Even though he performed the song on TV for the first time, it is keeping its place high on several charts.

K-pop sensation G-Dragon is teaming up with a professional teenager guitarist on Sunday's "Inkigayo."
G-Dragon, who has been coloring the music scene with "CRAYON," is collaborating with finger-style guitarist Jung Sung-ha for "That XX" on SBS' music program "Inkigayo" on September 23, YG Entertainment said in a press release Friday.
The 16-year-old guitarist is known as an acoustic guitar virtuoso that shot to fame after receiving massive popularity online through his cover videos of all genres on YouTube. Jung's official YouTube channel has nearly 540 million views and over 915,000 subscribers.
This is his second collaboration with artists under the management of YG Entertainment, as he sat next to 2NE1 in a project music video for "I LOVE YOU" and "LONELY" last month. The clips later gained rave reviews for his neat and fresh interpretation of the girl group's melody.
"Watching G-Dragon singing 'That XX' in live with Jung's guitar sound will be something new. G-Dragon and Jung are working with sweat to present the best performance," a YG official was quoted as saying.
"That XX" is the rapper-singer's acoustic single off "ONE OF A KIND," the first mini-album that became available online on September 15.

[NEWS] G-Dragon to Make First Radio Show Appearance in 1.5 Years Through Yoo In Na’s ‘Volume Up’ ! (120918)
G-Dragon will be the featured guest for the September 19 episode of KBS 2FM’s Yoo In Na’s Volume Up. The appearance marks G-Dragon’s first radio show appearance in a year and six months, when he last appeared in a radio show with Big Bang.
In the episode, G-Dragon will promote his new mini album, One of a Kind and reveal stories about the album’s production and perform some of his tracks live. The radio show will also be available for viewing online.
It’s said G-Dragon decided to appear on radio in order to have more fans be able to enjoy his new album and the Big Bang leader decided on Yoo In Na’s show as she is from the same label, YG Entertainment, as himself.
Prior to his radio show appearance, G-Dragon’s new mini album will be available in stores beginning on September 18.

I don’t know why I still get into debates with so-called Hip Hop heads over Pop being “real” music or not. I mean, didn’t DJ Premier produce for Christina Aguilera? Don’t Timbaland and Justin Timberlake have a classic album together? End of conversation, suckas! But the same argument extends to our Kpop friends overseas.
Choice 37 is that real and he’s the man behind some of the biggest hits to come out of Kpop in recent years.
Before he was getting shout outs from G-Dragon ( “Choice, drop it on me“) he was collaborating with indie favorites like Blu and Aloe Blacc. Nowadays, he’s both expanding the repertoire and treating casual listeners to innovative soundscapes, applying his hip hop roots to create bangers for YG Entertainment ( Big Bang, 2NE1). Read on to find out how he got down with the label, what hip hop blogs Big Bang is up on, and where to get those pants from the “One of a Kind” video.
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you came to start making beats?
- Hello. My name’s Choice37. Born and raised in Southern California. Started making beats because I needed to rap over them along with my crew. Shout out to StresOne and Dj Rel of Longevity Crew.
Q: Your music now is a big departure from your music on Diligence, was that a hard transition?
- Not really. Some of the tracks that were used early on were songs left off of Diligence because they weren’t finished i.e. G-Dragon's “Butterfly”.
- *NOTE: Diligence is an album Choice 37 released in 2007.
Q: How did you find yourself at YG?
- Was in L.A. in 2008. Felt stuck and lost. Said a prayer. Packed my bags and some cash. Landed in Korea. Hollered at my man Teddy and he put me on.
Q: You have great chemistry with G-dragon musically, how did that begin?
- Teddy listened to some beats I had and gave some to YG and G-Dragon.
Q: I must’ve listened to G-Dragon's “A Boy” , literally 10 times in a row, when I came across it. Am I crazy?
- You tell me. I think I am.
Q: Who are your favorite producers right now?
- Currently, I’m digging Diplo, Bangladesh, and Hit Boy.
Q: Are you still keeping up with American hip hop? If so, who are you listening to right now?
- Most of the time I’m only listening to American hip hop. Blu, Kendrick Lamar and all of TDE, A$AP Rocky, Danny Brown, Childish Gambino, G.O.O.D music, MMG, and Riff Raff.
Q: We heard a rumor that Big Bang messes with hip hop blogs? That true?
- Yeah, they check out OnSmash and Worldstar.
Q: How do you spend time off?
- Just chillin with my wife and family.
Q: How often do you visit America and what do you do when you’re here?
- Not as often as I’d like to. Maybe once a year. I like to relax with family and friends and eat as much Mexican food and In-N-Out as possible.
Q: Your latest big hit is G-Dragon's “One of a Kind”, did you make that beat with GD in mind or is that something he picked?
- That song was picked by YG himself and he passed it along to GD.
Q: You had an ill cameo, man. For the people who want to be like Choice 37, what’s the hardware you rockin’ with in the video? Where can people get those pants?
- That’s a mpc500, wasn’t even mine, it was T.O.P’s. The Director wanted me to hold something and I didn’t think holding my Mpc3000 was a good look (it’s heavy and I’m out of shape). To be straight up, I don’t use a drum machine anymore, just software and samples. Rocking Human Potential aka Hupot pants! Holler at opening ceremony and support!

G-Dragon's music video of "One of a Kind" has been released on September 25 and has received over 10 million views already on YouTube.
Also, G-Dragon's music video for "That XX", which was released September 1, received over 3.3 million views only 2 days after the date of its release. G-Dragon's power in the music industry is clearly exemplified by the number of views his music videos received from people located all over the globe.
G-Dragon is following the footsteps of Psy, who all-killed almost every single music chart in Korea. G-Dragon's "That XX" all-killed various music charts, including music sites like Melon and Mnet, as soon as it was released. G-Dragon's "That XX" is maintaining its place in the number 1 spot and continues to gain popularity.
The fact that G-Dragon is maintaining his number 1 spot in the music charts is even more meaningful and special because it is very unusual for a song that has adult content to even rise to the number 1 spot to begin with. However, regardless of the adult content in G-Dragon's new song "That XX", he is maintaining his place at the top.

After voluntarily restricting his newest single That XX to Rated-R, Big Bang’s G-Dragon will be releasing a censored version of the same song for the music video.
On August 31, YG Entertainment stated, “We decided to solve the problems in the lyrics of That XX with censored beeps.”
The new version with censorship, solely created for the music video, will allow the audience of 15 and older to watch the anticipated footage.
The song, however, will be released in the music market as is with the 19 and older rating, since changing the song lyrics affects the artist’s creative license.
G-Dragon’s upcoming solo album has been gaining much attention, not just for its unique style and rated-R songs, but also the way it is being released. G-Dragon unveiled the music video for One of a Kind on August 25, but has not released the track anywhere.
With YG Entertainment known for its unique ways of promotions, people are looking on to see what new styles G-Dragon’s comeback will bring.
Meanwhile, YG Entertainment unveiled one of its trainees, Jennie Kim, who will also be starring in G-Dragon’s new music video. Her practice video of charismatic rapping was also censored out due to profanities.

Member of YG’s Future Girl Group Cast as G-Dragon’s Leading Lady Posted by vip4daesung on August 29, 2012
According to StarNews, YG Entertainment will have one of the members from their upcoming girl group to appear in G-Dragon’s music video for “That xx.”
It was revealed to StarNews, on August 29, that the leading lady is the mystery girl whose picture was posted on YG’s blog, YG Life, on April 10 under the title “Who’s that girl?” Viewers will able to meet the mystery girl when the music video is released on September 1.
YG Entertainment have already introduced 2 of the members, Kim Eun Bi and Yuna Kim, but there’s not much known about the mystery girl except that her name is Jenny Kim and she’s born in 1996. It’s known that she has stunning looks and great music skills. YG Entertainment has allowed Jenny to take part in this music video stating that it works with her image.
YG Entertainment has revealed their upcoming girl group: Kim Eun Bi (‘93) who landed in the top 6 in the audition show, “Super Star K 2;” Yuna Kim (‘94) who almost made it to the top 10 in “Super Star K 3” is from New York; Jenny Kim aka “Mystery Girl #1;” “Mystery Girl #2” (‘95) and another unnamed half Korean-half Caucasian female.
Since it’s already been 3 years since YG Entertainment introduced 2NE1, the public is eating up every and any information given regarding the upcoming girl group. Jenny Kim

In Asia, Big Bang has excelled in the area of music, fashion and arts. We have interviewed the youngest member VI whose Japanese really impressed us.
Q) This is the album (ALIVE) that we had been anticipating for a long time. It's been said that you put in a lot of efforts in producing it!
VI: This is an important album that we worked on for a whole year. ALIVE, the title of our album means 'living'. Although we faced things that seemed unbearable, with the concerted efforts of the five members and thinking that "this is the last time", we made this album. Among all the songs, Fantastic Baby is special since we had the assistance of VERBAL-san (a producer) and were able to produce a song with good sense. The lyrics are very good too.
Q: It seems that from music production to your looks, you design them all with your own hands.
VI: Leader G-Dragon's strength lies in composing songs and writing lyrics. We have our own fashion designers but we do also give our own opinions. Our president YG does not say, "do this, do that." He gives us quite a lot of freedom to do the music that we love and wear the clothes that we want. He respects us as artists.
Q: Your group is quite different from the current K-POP style, which places emphasis on uniform dancing and looks.
VI: Our group consists of members who have distinctive characters and unique strengths. We can express our opinion freely so we produce brand new music from time to time. It is really a delightful thing! We don't really practice and the longest session usually lasts for 3 hours. If our body is exhausted then our brains will be tired too. If we are in this state, then we will not be happy when we are performing on the stage. Big Bang really loves performing on stage so when the members gather together, we discuss about "today we do this, tomorrow we will do that" or "I think these clothes really suit you." So with our hearts pounding and an excited mood, we feel very happy when we are performing. It's like we're intoxicated. I want to convey this kind of intensity to everyone.
Q: How do you keep your physical and mental power?
VI: It is our strength too if we are physically healthy. Good athletes also pay attention to their body conditions. We work out every day and we have our own trainers. Moreover, it is important to sustain the fitness. It is not workable if our body conditions fluctuate.
Q: Is there anything exciting happening in your daily life?
VI: Films and sitcoms. I have the dialogues of Umizaru almost memorized now. After watching 'Rookies', I now know how to talk like a bad boy. (Laughs) However, I am learning how to speak formal Japanese since it is important for me to accumulate my life experience.
Q: What are the secrets of the popularity of Korean artists?
VI: Koreans are usually impatient people who change their mobile phones like once every month. The pace of changes is so fast. The rankings on music charts change weekly or every 3 days. Because of this, the artists are really hardworking. However, this is only one circle of world music. If we want to jump out of the boundaries of KPOP, we have to grow up by exchanging our ideas with international artists. American and European DJs and producers have voiced out their desire to collaborate with us, so we hope to mature.

[NEWS] YG Entertainment's Triple Threat for PSY, G-Dragon & 2NE1! (120829)
YG Entertainment and its prowess is growing every day.
As Psy's "Gangnam Style" music video surpassed the 60 million views on YouTube, Big Bang G-Dragon's new single, "One of a Kind," was also released on August 25, now recording 6.4 million views in a matter of 3 days.
Justin Bieber's management company recently reached out to Psy and took a meeting with him. 2NE1's Los Angeles concert featured a surprise performance with Will.i.am and interest from American companies. It is clear that YG is at the forefront of stepping out into the international markets.
Big Bang, 2NE1, Psy, Se7en, Epik High, and Gummy all line the YG label and they were always influential but it was never at this height. Even with Big Bang and 2NE1 at the top of their respective piles, the label had not been at the center of this much attention until "Gangnam Style" blew up everywhere. As Psy is being catapulted to world star status, the synergy is exacting its power on YG and their international reach.
As the Dokdo issue flares up again, YG is relieved from having to rely on the Japanese market for a large portion of their commercial success. Psy was originally scheduled to go into the Japanese market but as his song went viral, the doors to the American market opened first. He visited with some industry people in LA, after 10 days in the States and he came back with possibilities of good news.
Before the land dispute got ugly, YG already completed their Big Bang World Tour in Japan as well as the "YG Family: concert, which drew a total of 300,000 people in Japan and earned about $49 million. 2NE1 still has the Japanese portion of their World Tour left but there is currently no news of any ticket cancellations or refunds. Big Bang will continue their world tour into North and South America as well as Europe. As Psy begins to circle the world, YG will score its most profitable year yet in 2012.
This helped the YG stock prices for obvious reasons. It's been on an increasing trend since "Gangnam Style" debuted, having gone up approximately $165 million over the past two months. The reason being Psy's rise in status around the world. YG believes that the synergy to be expected from the Psy-Big Bang-2NE1 triangle will be immense and the recent success is because of this new power combination.
Psy is not an idol singer. He's not like the other boy and girl groups that have been dominating the market recently. His world fame now will most likely affect the way that the Korean music industry sees itself as well. A professor at Sungshin Women's University said, "The Psy phenomenon has confirmed that the variety in K-Pop can be a key to success rather than the formulaic creation of idol groups."
YG can also stand to benefit from the fame of "Gangnam Style" on merchandise. A German shopping mall has already started selling t-shirts with the "Gangnam Style" motif and though YG is not currently posing a problem, they should be gearing to take advantage of this opportunity and go into fashion with the recent increase in popularity as well.
