MANILA, Philippines – Big Bang, one of Korea’s most popular boy bands today, finally held the highly-anticipated Manila leg of their Alive Galaxy Tour last night, and it was undoubtedly one for the books.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock over the last few years, you would know that Kpop has been gaining steady popularity in the country and is at its highest peak today, what with everyone still reeling over the aftereffects of international viral hit “Gangnam Style” by singer PSY who, incidentally, is under the same agency as Big Bang (YG Entertainment). While few and far between and usually with hefty ticket prices, concerts by Kpop stars more often than not end up getting sold out early. It’s no surprise then that the non-Korean music-listening majority would wonder what exactly about “those Koreans” that makes their ardent and usually young fans scrimp on their daily necessities to save and ultimately shell out money worth, say, what a brand new smart phone would cost.
Starting just about 20 minutes late – and when you’re in Manila, that’s already a good thing – the Big Bang concert opened with a visually-stunning AVP of a spaceship hovering over what seemed to be thousands of miles above the Earth’s atmosphere, deploying five space capsules containing band members G-Dragon, TOP, Seungri, Daesung, and Taeyang. The curtain, which also served as the screen, unveiled to reveal these capsules with the members inside them singing a short intro titled “Alive.”
And from there on it was just one high-energy live performance one after the other, with the boys performing their latest releases “Monster,” “Blue,” “Fantastic Baby,” and “Bad Boy,” to name a few. They also treated the audience to some of their older hits, like “Lies,” “Gara Gara Go,” “Love Song,” “Tonight,” and a stripped down version of one of their most popular songs to date, “Day By Day.”
The concert ended more than two hours later with encore performances of “Heaven” and “Last Farewell,” and reprises of “Bad Boy,” and Fantastic Baby,” among others.
What’s always overwhelming about Kpop concerts is the audience turnout. As seen in last night’s event, despite it being held at new Mall of Asia Arena located south of Metro Manila, on a weekday (on a Wednesday no less, which is also known as Baclaran Day, one of the busiest days in Manila), the ridiculously expensive ticket prices, and the inclement weather that decided to make its presence felt that evening, the arena was packed with fans collectively known as VIPs.
And the VIPs, they definitely got their time and money’s worth. Aside from seeing these performers in the flesh, Kpop concerts always have these elaborate production set-ups, and we’re not just talking about the stage design. There are the AVPs that actually tell a story depending on the tour’s theme, pyrotechnic display, and quirky props – in Big Bang’s case, there were a bicycle and a sparkly Segway, to name a few. Completing the whole set-up are the fans. For some reason, “fan unity” is more felt in such concerts, what with them carrying light sticks of a common design and donning outfits and accessories expressing their “affiliations.”
In between performances, Big Bang members would speak to their fans in English and a few Tagalog words they probably picked up from fellow YG artist and former Star Magic actress Sandara Park, or Dara of 2NE1 who, judging from her recent tweets, watched the concert as show of support. With not much of a language barrier – which is already common in Kpop concerts, what with other groups having just one or two members able to speak in English – and perhaps also the group’s “Filipino connection,” Big Bang was able to build rapport with the audience. Members professed their love for the country a number of times, telling the crowd that they're having a grand time and that last night's audience was the best they’ve had so far, and promising to return soon.

After Psy and Big Bang Seungri’s mysterious photos, YG-Life has shared a photo of Epik High‘s Tablo holding up the same “Don’t Hate Me” sign.
The “Don’t Hate Me” photos, which started with Psy on the 14th, have been sparking the curiosity of many. Fans are speculating that this may be a teaser for a release by a YG Entertainment artist or a promotion for a campaign.
The agency commented, “Although we can’t reveal… what ‘Don’t Hate Me’ is referring to at the moment, we will soon be resolving the curiosity of fans.”

After Psy’s mysterious photo, YG-Life has shared a photo of Big Bang‘s Seungri holding up the same “Don’t Hate Me” sign on 16 October 2012.
Psy had previously posted an image of himself holding up the sign through his twitter on the 14th, sparking the curiosity of many. With Seungri being the second person to bare the sign, it seems that this may not be a teaser for Psy’s individual release, but perhaps one that involves other artists of YG Entertainment.
The agency commented, “Although we can’t reveal who the third person to carry the sign will be nor what ‘Don’t Hate Me’ is referring to at the moment, we will soon be resolving the curiosity of fans.”
Could it be a teaser for the new girl group coming up? Stay tuned with us as we bring you more updates! :D

[NEWS] Taeyang: "I'm currently working on my solo album" (120926)
Today, YG releasing a mysterious photo teaser on YG-Life that says "Hi! HiGH" and fans are already curious on what is coming up. Many have guessed that it was a teaser for Epik High's comeback but fans too were guessing if that mysterious teaser was meant for Taeyang, who mentioned that he is currently working on his solo album.
On September 25, Taeyang appeared on Naver’s “GD Friends Live” and commented, “I came again on this show today. I’ve been intervening a bit during G-Dragon’s activities so I dread thinking that people might wonder if I have nothing to do.”
He went on, “In fact, I’m really busy right now. I’m currently working on my solo album.” His fellow members, G-Dragon and Daesung cheered, “Your solo album will definitely do well.” Following which, Taeyang too have mentioned that his solo album might drop early next year but it is still early to give fans any confirmation and that it might not come out at all afterall.
YG Entertainment said in a phone interview, “Now is not the right time to further discuss Taeyang’s solo album. Right now, Big Bang is currently busy holding their world tour so they would usually be abroad on the weekends. Not only Taeyang, but Big Bang is constantly working on their next album.”
The representative commented, “Since Big Bang will be busy holding their world tour til this December, if Taeyang’s album does come out it will be afterwards.”
In other news, G-Dragon has released his mini album on September 15 with “One of a Kind” and later followed up with his title track “Crayon.”
With the world tour going on, it is unlikely that YG would want Taeyang to make a comeback anytime soon this year but VIPs would be anticipating it now that he has mentioned it!

[NEWS] T.O.P suffers an injury while filming for movie ‘Alumnus’ (120922)

According to information released to us by YG Entertainment, Big Bang‘s T.O.P has unfortunately suffered an injury on the back of his hand during the filming of his movie ‘Alumnus‘.
On September 21st, T.O.P was filming a combat scene that took place near a piece of glass. During the filming, he unfortunately hurt his hand on a glass fragment and is reported to have been admitted to the hospital for surgery on the same day. He is currently resting at the hospital.
As the injury was not a minor one for it required surgery, the agency and the movie production staff were put into an emergency situation in which they had to make sure of T.O.P’s condition and recovery as well as figure out the changes in schedule. However, T.O.P is said to have been more concerned about the changes being made to the filming schedule because of him rather than the condition of his hand, and is insisting that he would like to carry on his scheduled filming.
In addition, T.O.P has a fan event planned at his movie filming location on the 22nd (today), and is scheduled to embark on the ‘2012 Big Bang Alive Galaxy Tour‘ for the next 9 weeks starting next weekend.
As he has no problems moving around, he has insisted that he is able to go on with the fan meeting and the world tour. However, as his hand is expected to take 2 to 3 weeks to heal, it is expected that there may be some issues with filming for the movie for the time being.
YG Entertainment commented, “As one of the main characters, T.O.P is feeling burdened about the filming being postponed because of him, especially since the filming had to be halted earlier with the changing of directors… We will be discussing with his doctor to figure out a way for T.O.P to carry on his schedules without putting strain on his condition.”

[NEWS] T.O.P to resume filming ‘Alumnus’ under new director! (120912)

Filming for the movie had 'recently come to a halt' after the previous director stepped down, however,Park Eun Kyung, head of ‘Alumnus’ production company ‘The Film‘ stated in a phone conversation with MyDaily on September 11th, “We will resume filming early next week with director Park Hong Soo.”
Park Hong Soo has worked as an assistant director for projects such as ‘Movie Is A Movie‘, ‘Blood Brother‘, ‘Notice‘, ‘Everything About My Wife‘, and more, and has also worked as an assistant director for ‘Alumnus’ as well.
T.O.P will be making his big-screen comeback for the first time in two years through ‘Alumnus’, playing the role of Myunghoon, an assassin who infiltrates the South to save his sister.

According to Star News, the director of “Alumni,” Park Shin Woo, has stepped down from his position last month, and his replacement still has not been filled. Although filming started in July, Park Shin Woo and the production company couldn’t overcome their differences, and the recording has been stalled for over a month now.
“Alumni” is a movie about a North Korean spy that gets dispatched to South Korea with his son. T.O.P plays the son of the North Korean spy, and tries to save his younger sister from danger.
