On March 31, eager K-pop fans fill the 13,000 seats in Seoul’s Olympic Gymanastic Hall venue; patiently waiting for G-Dragon--the charismatic, forward-thinking bad boy leader of mammoth K-pop boy band BIG BANG--to hit the stage for the second sold-out night of his world tour.

But G-Dragon is not just a boy band leader: he’s an acclaimed singer/songwriter/producer (who worked on K-Pop Hot 100 No. 1s like BIG BANG’s “Blue” and “Monster”), fashion icon (his wardrobe choices create instant trends), and is pushing the boundaries, again, with his first solo world tour, “2013 G-DRAGON WORLD TOUR: ONE OF A KIND.” In fact, G-Dragon has established himself as a global star that famed choreographers Travis Payne and Stacy Walker (who worked extensively on Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” tour, Payne associate produced the accompanying movie) are on board. The two say GD has elements of both MJ and Lady Gaga.

Before the show, fans--including famous Korean actors, actresses and models--are chanting G-Dragon’s birth name “Kwon Ji Yong! Kwon Ji Yong!” and waving BIGBANG merchandise featuring the band’s symbolic yellow crown. Billboard was backstage for an exclusive intimate interview with the K-pop prince. Watch the video below:

At a little past 3:00 p.m., the curtains rise and G-Dragon emerges in a futuristic glass car, donning a bright red bodysuit and equally flaming red hair. The beat to newly-premiered track, “GO,” echos through the stadium as the K-pop prince shouts, “Make some noise!” The vibrant, two-hour, Michael Jackson-level affair had begun.

With eye-popping props, numerous outfit changes, multiple LED screens flashing video visuals, and dazzling laser lights, the highly-energetic performer moved through a remixed version of his monster solo debut single “Heartbreaker” and knocking track “One Of a Kind,” (which was No. 17 of 2012 Billboard’s K-Pop Songs of the Year).

With the help of Epik High’s Tablo and 2NE1’s CL on hip-hop tracks “Light It Up” and “The Leaders” respectively.

Slowing things down for a bit, GD was elevated on a rising platform to perform romantic, acoustic guitar track “Butterfly” among giant flying butterfly kites. Next was “That XX,” another acoustic pop-ballad, where G-Dragon brought out guitarist Danny for a tender performance on a jeweled throne.

While he took a break, guest stars 2NE1 performed two songs: their hard-hitting smash “I Am The Best” and latest romantic single “I Love You.” "Isn't G-Dragon great?!" 2NE1 leader CL asked the crowd. "He is the best. We are really honored to be here. G-Dragon is re-energizing so, please, continue to support him throughout the show."

G-Dragon seemed to focus on making the night about personal connection throughout the night; taking time to truly interact with fans. In between the sets, he would run down in a pool of screaming fans sticking his face out in the crowd and letting fans touch him.

G-Dragon winded his show down strong with a hybrid remix version of electro-pop numbers “Crayon” and BIG BANG’s “Fantastic Baby.” He flaunted his fiery rap skills while he and his dancers partied in a storm of confetti. After the encore of BIG BANG’s “Bad Boy” and another performance of “GO.” G-Dragon gave a sincere thanks to the audience.

“This is my first tour as a solo artist in four years,” he told the crowd. "A lot has happen within those years. It’s kind of embarrassing to say this, but I think I’ve matured as a person and artist.

G-Dragon fans worldwide donate 9.9 Tons of Rice!

On March 30 and 31, rice wreaths surrounded the Olympic Park Gymnastics Hall for the 2013 G-Dragon World Tour: One of a Kind concerts in Seoul. 

The total amount of donated rice was revealed to be a whopping 9.91 tons. There were 500 rice wreaths, each carrying 20kg of rice, which is enough to feed one meal to 82,000 children. 

G-Dragon will be sending the rice to help malnourished children, elderly living on their own, and other people in need. 

The rice wreaths were sent from fans worldwide from 14 different countries, such as USA, England China, Japan, Peru, Ecuador, Russia, France, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Indonesia, Chile, Philippines, and Korea.

• G-Dragon and Daesung showed off their dating skills.

Both G-Dragon and Daesung were guests on the March 26 episode of ‘Incarnation‘ and they acted out a skit to show how they would ask a girl out using actress Kim Hee Sun as the date.

At the beginning of the skit, G-Dragon joked around by greeting her, “Grandma“, but when both of them settled down at the makeshift movie theater, she said, “I heard this movie was good“. He answered, “Yeah, the movie is good, but this is a little uncomfortable“. He proceeded to push up the arm rests between them as well as the one on his side, and then lied down with his head on her lap.

Not only so, he’d pushed the soda cup far away, so when she leaned over him to drink from it, she’d have to practically lie on top of him. MC Shin Dong Yup said, “He’s a genius!“, and the other guests couldn’t help with their awed laughter.

Daesung was up next, and he said, “I’m going to go for a romance movie“. From the beginning, he made the entire situation comical by breathing hard, and Kim Hee Sun couldn’t help but laugh and say, “His breathing is really loud“. He explained, “This is part of my acting“.

As they kept watching the movie, he suddenly threw down the popcorn he was holding, surprising Kim Hee Sun. She asked, bewildered, “What’s wrong?“, and he said, “It’s just stuffy in here“, causing the audience to burst out laughing again. He said, “I can’t breathe,” and then suddenly grabbed her arms and brought it to his chest, exclaiming, “Feel it.” Of course, the sudden action caused the women watching to shriek in delight, and the men to burst out into laughter. Daesung smoothly ignored them both and said coolly, “Can you feel it? When this movie ends, can you look not at the screen, but just at me?”

• Big Bang‘s Daesung revealed his plan on how he got a girl to notice him.

Daesung and G-Dragon were guests on the March 26 installment of SBS‘s ‘Incarnation‘. On the show, Daesung revealed that in real life he is actually very shy. MC Yoon Jong Shin confirmed this and said, “He’s a very cautious person“. G-Dragon added on, “When I see Daesung from the side, he sort of acts like a boy still going through puberty. He sort of teases whoever he likes. He plays a lot of jokes on them. He tells them they’re ugly for no particular reason and makes fun of them, he playfully pushes them around.”

Kim Hee Sun also revealed, “I heard Daesung disappears when he gets in a relationship. He gets so focused on his relationship that he just disappears.” Both G-Dragon and Daesung admitted the claim, and Kim Hee Sun jokingly added, “Since you’ve appeared now (on the show), you must not be in a relationship.”

Daesung admitted it and said, “When I start a relationship, I forget how time passes. One time, I liked someone who I didn’t really even have a chance to meet often. I knew her number, but I didn’t have a reason to contact her. But I really liked her, and I wondered how I could talk to her. The thing I came up with was to pretend like I misdialed her number. I felt like pretending that I texted her by mistake would be too much, so I pretended like I dialed the wrong number. 

So I called her, but before that, I had to write out what I was going to say on paper, since I’d be too nervous to properly speak. For example, I pretend like I was supposed to call my stylist, and prepare things like, ‘Noona, what’s on the schedule tomorrow? What time should I get to the shop?’. Since I shouldn’t talk too much, I’ll just end speaking right there.”

He continued, “You also have to be careful because you have to talk before the other person has a chance to speak, since you know her voice. If you look at your phone, the phone will read, ‘Dialing’, but then when the other person picks up, the screen changes to the call timer of 00:00. So you can’t listen – you have to be carefully watching. As soon as it changed, I said everything. There was silence, and then she started to laugh. So I said, ‘Oh! I’m so sorry!’ and hung up. The reason why I hung up was because if I kept talking then, I’d have no more reason to talk to her. So I pretend like I’m talking to the original person I was supposed to call for 5-10 minutes, and then I text back.“

Billboard: "G-Dragon Drops New Song 'GO'" Posted by vip4daesung on April 4, 2013

This weekend marked the launch of BIG BANG leader G-Dragon's solo world tour. The K-pop rap star has announced stops in Japan and China (with more locations to be announced), but kicked off the trek with two dates in his home country South Korea's capital city, Seoul.

For the tour, G-Dragon released a new song titled “GO” to lead his upcoming solo project. He performed the track at the two events, but "GO" was not released in its official studio version after the show. In an unprecedented release strategy, the song was revealed through phone app, LINE. According to the Google Play application store, LINE has been ranked No. 1 in the free app category in 42 countries including Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Hong Kong. The partnership with the BIG BANG member may have come to increase its visibility in South Korea. In order for fans to access the song for the download, they had to install the app with it only available in the Korea, Japan, and Thailand versions of LINE.

"GO" is an aggressive electronic rap track that showcases G-Dragon's charismatic delivery. At this point in his career, G-Dragon's signature style is as recognizable in K-pop as Nicki Minaj in American and British pop. The song has a recurrent dubstep breakdown which, curiously, appears before the catchy, repetitive "michi go" hook. The song's production has some strong resemblance to Rihanna’s “Unapologetic” album opener “Phresh Off the Runway,” but the Barbados pop star incorporates lighter synthesizers and does not include dubstep breakdowns.

G-Dragon has explained that the hook on “GO” refers to a new term for going crazy. This isn’t the K-pop star’s first attempt to coin new slang for wiling out with G-Dragon’s last single “Crayon” instructing listeners to “get your cray on.” Or, get your crazy on.

Those who plan on attending Psy‘s upcoming concert are in for a fantastic treat as Lee Hi and G-Dragon will be performing at the event as well!

Psy’s ‘HAPPENING‘ concert will be held at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on April 13th, where Psy will perform his new single “Gentleman” for the first time at the large-scale event.

In addition, the audience will get to see a live performance of “Michi GO” from G-Dragon and feast their ears on the soulful vocals of Lee Hi! It’s said that they’re currently deciding on which song that the rookie will perform at the event.

Lee Hi shared, “I am very thankful that my sunbaenims granted me a lot of good opportunities since I joined YG Entertainment. I am really happy that I joined the YG Family. YG Entertainment commented, “The focus of Lee Hi’s performance will be on the deliverance of the lyrics by using a stand mic and reducing the choreography elements.”

On April 9, Zion T will be releasing his first solo album, Red Light, which is already raising a lot of anticipation. 

With his unique and smooth voice, Zion T has recently been spotlighted through various collaborations with many artists including Dynamic Duo, Supreme Team, Infinite H and more. 

Among the large group of people awaiting the release of Zion T’s first album is Big Bang Taeyang, who gave the young singer a shout out on his Twitter.

BigBang’s DVD sales in Japan hit the highest number in Japan, ranking number one on Oricon weekly chart.

According to Oricon, Japan’s largest music ranking chart, BigBang’s DVD of their concert BIGBANG ALIVE TOUR 2012 IN JAPAN SPECIAL FINALIN DOME-TOKYO DOME 2012.12.05 had sold 36,000 copies in Japan, hitting the highest number and ranking the top on the weekly chart.

This number is a record-breaker for BigBang’s DVD sales in Japan. In 2011 the popular band sold 35,000 DVDs. Ranking number one on the list, however, is not new for BigBang as this is the fourth time being the top in Japan’s DVD sales.

The DVD includes the scenes from BIGBANG ALIVE TOUR 2012 IN JAPAN SPECIAL FINAL IN DOME-TOKYO DOME from last December.

[NEWS] Daesung Holds Another Successful Set of Concerts in Japan! (130401)

While G-Dragon took charge of Korea, Big Bang′s Daesung took another successful step in his first solo Japan tour.

The singer managed to entertain 24,000 fans at his D-Lite D′scover Tour 2013 in Japan ~DLIVE~ held from March 30-31 in Budokan.

From his J-Pop cover album D′scover, Daesung sang many remake tracks including Utautai No Ballad, Hi No Ataru Sakamichi, Zenryoku Shoujo and Joyful, as well as his own new songs Wings and Baby Don′t Cry.

The concert continued under the concept of a warm live concert, and had the singer sing a total of 21 songs including Dreams Come True′s Mirai Yosouzu II by popular demand from fans.

This was the first time Daesung performed in collaboration with a live band and Japanese musicians.

Original Megadeth member Marty Friedman joined Daesung in the band, while other prominent Japanese band members followed.

Singer Gummy helped Daesung onstage this day as a label mate and friend. She sang her promotional singleShinjiteiru... from her first Japanese album Fate(s).

Daesung was known to have taken charge of not only his performances, but also of general stage effects and videos.

He said, "I was very worried because it′s my first solo live, but I′m very happy I was able to put on a great live performance with my splendid band and my fans. I was able to sing live with confidence thanks to all of you. It was a great experience, and I′ll continue to work hard in the future."

Daesung originally planned only to hold concerts in Kobe and Budokan, but when fanclub demand for tickets shot up and fans continued to bombard the agency with inquiries, he decided to expand the series to a national tour.

He next plans to go on to 19 more cities to meet over 102,000 fans.

The 2013 G-Dragon World Tour: One of a Kind concerts took place in Seoul and kicked off the singer′s world tour.

G-Dragon indeed showed he was ′one of a kind′ as he burst forth in his own style and personality all throughout the concert.

The singer appeared onstage in red hair and clothes, riding a glass car shining with the light reflected off of its frame. He immediately got his fans worked up into a frenzy as he performed Crazy GO (Michi GO) and Heartbreaker.

After performing the two songs, G-Dragon got his fans shouting with glee as he said, "Welcome to the show. Today (March 31)′s concert is the last. Are you ready to go crazy?"

He then performed with his YG Entertainment label mates Tablo, CL and Lee Hi. With Epik High′s Tablo he sang Light It Up, while with 2NE1′s CL he performed The Leaders and with Lee Hi he sang Without You.

He also sang Butterfly, Missing You, That XX, Today, This Love, Station of One Year, Nightmare, She′s Gone, Crayon and Fantastic Baby.

G-Dragon will be the next Big Bang member to debut solo in Japan.

On April 1, YG entertainment announced that "G-Dragon will release his solo debut album in Japan on August 14."

"We haven′t been able to decide on any specifics about the album, but the country has been showing interest in his first Japanese album," it added.

Daesung was the first member to debut in Japan as the solo singer D-Lite in February. G-Dragon is to be the second.

Before his debut, G-Dragon plans to first complete his first solo world tour, the G-Dragon 2013 World Tour: One of a Kind, which includes a four-dome tour in Japan.

Most recently the singer performed in Korea and launched his world tour in Seoul.
